Preparing Your 72-hour Emergency Kit

  • Better risk prevention and awareness

Power, gas and tap water outages, impassable roads… when a major disaster strikes, the first 72 hours often matter the most.

Why you need a Survival Kit

Preparing a 72-hour survival kit in advance can help you stay safe at home if emergency services are unable to reach you promptly. It can also be useful if you have to evacuate or leave home quickly.

How to Prepare a Survival Kit

Your 72-hour survival kit should be easily accessible so that you can grab it quickly as possible. Keep it somewhere dry and protected from water. For this reason, avoid storing your kit in a cellar or basement.

  • Drinking water (6 litres per person in sealed containers)
  • A flashlight with spare batteries or a hand-crank dynamo
  • A pocket knife or can opener
  • Candles with matches or a lighter
  • A mobile phone charger
  • An extra pair of prescription glasses
  • A radio with spare batteries
  • A first-aid kit
  • A second set of keys
  • Copies of your I.D documents
  • Any medication you need
  • Cash
  • Warm clothing
  • Games or books (to keep yourself busy while waiting for the emergency to arrive)

Check and replenish your survival kit once a year.
